Recognition

U.S. Department of Education (USDE)

The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) is recognized by the United States Secretary of Education as authorized by United States law.  Recognition of the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE), enables the institutions CCE accredits to establish eligibility to participate in programs authorized under the Higher Education Act of 1995, as amended.

On July 30, 2019, the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) recommended renewal of recognition for the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) as a nationally recognized accrediting agency. Accordingly, on November 8, 2019, the Secretary granted continued recognition to CCE for a period of three (3) years as a nationally recognized accrediting agency for the accreditation of programs leading to the Doctor of Chiropractic degree and single-purpose institutions offering the Doctor of Chiropractic program.

Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is a private, nonprofit national organization that coordinates accreditation activity in the United States. CHEA represents more than 3,000 colleges and universities and 60 national, regional and specialized accreditors.  CHEA accreditors are normally reviewed on a 10-year cycle with two interim reports.

CHEA has six recognition standards by which it reviews accrediting organizations for recognition.  The standards place primary emphasis on academic quality assurance and improvement for an institution or program. They require accreditors to advance academic quality, demonstrate accountability, encourage purposeful change and needed improvement, employ appropriate and fair procedures in decision making, continually reassess accreditation practices and sustain fiscal stability.

In May 2018, the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) submitted the required interim report in accordance with the 2010 CHEA Recognition Policy and Procedures to CHEA.  At its June 4, 2018 meeting, the CHEA Committee on Recognition reviewed the report and requested follow-up information regarding Standard 12B5 to inform the public of the bases and reasons for CCE’s final accreditation decisions by December 1, 2018.  On November 28, 2018, CCE submitted its follow-up report for review by the CHEA Committee on Recognition and additional information on February 6, 2019 as requested. The CHEA Committee on Recognition reviewed/accepted the report at its March 2019 meeting with no further reporting required.
